Elijah Visits his GG McG's

Great Grandma Liz looks like she has rocked a few babies in her life.
Combined Elijah and his great gramps have 973 months of life. Great Gramps McG has most of them.

Count it up, four generations!

Picture Overload!

EK and Papa. Nice hat kid. Good BSU Bronco colors Papa!
3rd, 4th and 5th generation Klaas man working the family auction

EK gains valuable customer service skills with his Grams. He learned that most folks have the same strategy that he has if things are not the way he wants, it is called whining.
Elijah and his Gramps both cried at the sale. Gramps call is much more pleasing.

Happy Mothers' Day!

Dear Grandma and Grams,

Since this is my first experience with Mothers' day I was not sure what to do. Presents were all but impossible- I don't have any money. I can't even afford the 39 cents to send a card. Making something crafty sounded fun, but I didn't have time (I was only born 2 weeks ago). I was going to write a poem, but I am not sure how to rhyme and I only know one syllable (making haiku impossible). Pop told me that I didn't have to get Grams a present. He said that she isn't my mom and that she would understand. Still I wanted to do something. So, I agreed to pose with Mom and Pop for a picture. I will see you both very soon.

For my mom on her day I went to mass with her and behaved the whole time. Breakfast in bed was great, but then Pop let me know that Mom was the one that is supposed to eat in bed, not me. Again, I was only born two weeks ago so I don't have all this stuff down. Pop agreed to help me out and got Mom some Keen sandals. He thought that was better than my idea of waking her up in the middle of the night and surprising her with a dirty diaper (but I did it anyway).

We are looking forward to tomorrow when Pop finishes his last exam. I haven't been around too long, but I already know there are two things I don't like: tests and being naked in cold rooms. Mom says that sounds pretty normal.

Well, I better go; I'm a little hungry and I need a bath.

Love you both,
EK

Family time

Here's Elijah with the Lloyds. This is the first time Uncle Tom has held a baby this small! He's doing a good job. Now we just have to get him to change diapers.

Going to Law School

Yesterday, Elijah started the day with a relaxing bath, continuing the Klaas tradition of "soaking." He enjoyed it much more than last time. Later, Elijah went to see where his dad disappears to everyday. Here are a few pics at the law school. This statue of St. Thomas More has a dirty shoe where all of the students rub it for good luck before their exams.

New things

Elijah's Grandma Norma is here for the weekend. She likes to bring lots of stuff for him, so he thinks she's all right.
After spending some quality time studying with his Pop, Elijah went on his first date! (He is, of course, going to be a priest but it's okay to date in the early years.) Here's EK with his friend Siobhan Wheaton at a German restaurant in St. Paul.
And today, Sunday, Elijah went to church for the first time! His Pop proudly held him all through Mass. He was very respectful of everyone praying and kept very quiet. And he got to walk with the family to the church. So many firsts!

1 week old!

A few of Elijah's observations after 1 week in this world:

Riding in the car is relaxing.
Being grubby is a good thing. Most little boys would agree.
It's good to enjoy your food. Mealtimes should be over 1 hour long.
Napping on someone else's tummy makes them feel good too.
And one's nose gets cold unless you sleep with your parents.

News Update

Here's the news from Lake Wobegon (actually St. Paul, but it doesn't sound the same)

Elijah had his first bath last night. You can see his reaction from the pictures.
Little EK decided Great Big Sea is his favorite band. He didn't have much choice, because his parents are partial to them too!
Osk is busy studying for finals, but had time for a little kangaroo time with his son.
Christina got almost 7 hours of sleep last night! That's this week's record. She looks intoxicated with joy.
Papa Tom continues to be great help, but hasn't had a chance to go golfing yet. If he finds a good course, he may decide to stay forever (he likes Elijah.)

Happy May Day

May Day here turned out to be another rainy day. Elijah's birthday was the last day that the sun shone here in St. Paul. But we're making the most of it. We ventured out today for Elijah's first doctor's appointment. He did really well, but has shrunk a little since he was born. He eats enough for 2 babies so maybe he'll start gaining weight again. Otherwise, no problems, and he especially liked the car ride! Here's finally a picture of Elijah and his mom. And the one in the carseat just goes to show that thereare hats that are too big for a Klaas man!
